Title: High power random fiber laser with flexible spectral manipulation property
Abstract:
High power random fiber laser, whose operation is based on unique random distributed feedback (RDFB), has many remarkable features, such as cavity-free, mode-free, and structural simplicity, and has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years for the potential application in frequency doubling, mid-infrared laser pumping, and supercontinuum generation. Furthermore, thanks to the special power distribution, the output spectral properties of high power random fiber laser can be manipulated via a device with relatively low operation power. In this talk, we will review the progresses in the field of high power random fiber laser. The recent achievements concerning random fiber laser in our group, including performance exploration with the aid of new pump source, power scaling by utilizing power amplifier, and multiple spectral manipulation, will also be introduced.

Jiangming Xu is currently an Instructor at the College of Advanced Interdisciplinary Studies, National University of Defense Technology, Changsha, China. Hiscurrent researches mainly focus on the Performance Exploration of High Power All-fiberized Incoherent Sources, including super fluorescent fiber source (SFS) and random fiber laser (RFL), from low power level photonic device to powerful and bright fiber source. The four most notable achievements are as follows: 1) the development of a compact multi-kilowatt broadband SFS, which delivers the highest power (3.14 kW) up to now; 2) the pioneering investigations on novel applications of powerful SFS to pump RFL and mid-infrared optical parametric oscillator with ultra-stable output; 3) the realization of kilowatt-level linearly-polarized narrow linewidth RFL for the first time; 4) the development of linearly-polarized high-order RFL with good polarization performance and the highest output power. These interesting results may constitute the basis for further exploitations in a wide range of fields, both from academic and application point of view.
